The dok phikoun flower is stylistically rendered and integrated into each pattern. This flower has special meaning to Lao Buddhists as a source of long life and good fortune. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">This cuff is purposely antiqued to heighten the depth and style of the dok phikoun. The main motif used in this piece was initially reserved for the Royal Court and is a stylized representation of the dok phikoun flower, indigenous to the region. Local monks have for centuries taught of the dok phikoun’s powers of good fortune and promotion of a long and happy life. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">There are only a few silversmiths who know how to make these intricate designs.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As Laos’ culture evolves and its products become commercialized, many of the master handcraft skills are being lost. Orijyn helps the master craftsmen find markets for their products outside of Laos. By supporting these crafts, you help to sustain the community culture and supply much needed income, preventing families from having to migrate to the city to find commoditized, low paying work. You will feel the satisfaction of helping an appreciative group of people make a better life for themselves. A portion of your purchase also goes to PADETC, a non-profit alternative learning school in Vientiane, Laos.
